Guided by Autism

Guided by Autism

A companion for late-diagnosed autistic women

You’ve spent a lifetime not quite fitting.
This book was written for that feeling.

This book will gently help you understand yourself with more clarity, compassion, and confidence.

Guided by Autism is a gentle, supportive space for the early stages of understanding.

When things feel confusing, unfamiliar, or difficult to put into words.

It’s not about defining you.
Or telling you who you are.

It’s about helping you begin to notice -

  • your patterns
  • your sensitivities
  • your needs

- with more clarity, and more kindness.

A companion for the first year… and beyond

This book is designed to support you in the months following diagnosis or self-identification - when everything can feel like it’s shifting.

It’s something you can return to over time -
whenever you need reassurance, language, or a place to feel understood.

The Unfolding Autism Map

At the heart of Guided by Autism is a gentle framework - five stages that reflect the unfolding experience of understanding yourself later in life.

Not as a fixed path, but as something you can move through in your own way.

You may recognise moments of:

The Realisation
when something begins to shift, and you start to see yourself differently

The Unravelling
as old understandings loosen, and things feel uncertain or unfamiliar

The Exploring
a gradual curiosity about your needs, your patterns, and your way of being

The Reclaiming
gently reconnecting with parts of yourself that may have been hidden or shaped by others

The Becoming
an ongoing sense of integration - of living more fully as yourself

You might move through these stages in order,
or find yourself returning to them again and again.

There is no right pace.
No final destination.

Only a deepening understanding of who you are -
and permission to meet yourself there.

This book is here to gently support you to:

Make sense of experiences that may have never quite fit before

Understand sensory overwhelm, masking, and fatigue in a more compassionate way

Begin recognising what your nervous system needs

Explore what being autistic means for you - personally, not clinically

Feel less alone in the way you experience the world

Whether you are newly diagnosed, self-identifying, or quietly questioning…

You are welcome here.

A different kind of guide

Rather than a rigid step-by-step process,
this book offers gentle structure without expectation.

You can read it slowly.
Dip in and out.

Pause when you need to.

Take what resonates and leave what doesn’t.

My Story

I didn’t write this book because I had all the answers, but from a deep sense of injustice. After seeing how isolating a late-diagnosis can be for autistic women - and how little guidance exists on how to navigate this news - I couldn’t ignore it. Once I found my footing, I couldn’t leave others to face it alone.
